I don't know about an announcement today, but I believe that the Best Buy deal is close to being a reality. It could all fall apart, but this is the closest we've been in years.

Quote
"Guns N' Roses representatives have been made aware of the arrests and are leaving the matter to the authorities," said Larry Solters, the band's spokesman.

So Guns N' Roses now have an OFFICIAL spokesman (instead of Sebastian Bach  ). Direct all your questions his way.

i'm disappointed. a radio dj said on saturday night during his gnr show that nov 25, 2008 bestbuy deal for chinese democracy would be officially confirmed on monday. today is monday. del james is yet to update gunsnroses.com with this news. i was told del runs the site for updated information. yet, he hasn't made this happen. it's about 4pm LA time. you would think, if this was really true and going to happen that it would already be on gunsnroses.com @ this time, but it's not. i'm disappointed. i really thought dj's weren't liars. i really thought del could be trusted this time steppin' through in a big spot for the gnr fans still starvin' for this album. i really thought this would be the case. but it's 7:15PM new york time and nothings changed. you know, john lennon once said "nothings gonna change my world" and nothing has changed in the world of guns n' roses today  Barf

Why would you think that?! DJs have been the most unreliable source for GnR new for the last decade! They constantly announce fake internet rumors as facts. Nothing is guaranteed until we hear it from Axl himself, the label AND Best Buy.

So I'm guessing nothing ever happened with this, and it was just a rumour?

New release rumor, courtesy of an industry publication:

GUNS N' ROSES' 'Chinese Democracy' Finally Has A Release Date - Oct. 9, 2008

According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy" (Geffen/Interscope) finally has a release date. The CD will hit all Best Buy stores, where it is an exclusive, on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving, November 23, giving it a full seven days on sale before entering the chart on December 2. Best Buy's sales week runs from Sunday through Saturday night.

GUNS manager Andy Gould reportedly told 900 Best Buy employees at "vendor convention" held by Best Buy last month in Dallas that a new GN'R song called "If The World" will play under the closing credits of "Body of Lies", the new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe due out on October 10. That news was confirmed online at film web sites whose representatives had attended a press screening of the flick. "If The World" will not appear on the film's soundtrack album.

"If The World" features the guitar work of Robin Finck and Buckethead, who have both since departed GUNS N' ROSES.

Another new GN'R song, called "Shackler's Revenge", appears on the Rock Band 2 video game.

"Chinese Democracy" has been more than 13 years in the making, with every original member of GUNS N' ROSES except for frontman Axl Rose long since gone from the lineup.

Billboard is reporting that their sources are confirming this. Billboard also broke the news when the Use Your Illusion albums finally secured a release date.

GNR's 'Chinese Democracy' Gets Release Date

October 09, 2008 , 11:40 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

More than a decade after its conception, Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" will finally see the light of day before year's end, sources close to the situation confirms to Billboard. As first reported here, the set will be a Best Buy exclusive and will be available Sunday, Nov. 23, rather than the usual Tuesday.

Beyond enticing pre-Thanksgiving shoppers, the move is tied to the structure of Best Buy's sales week, which runs from Sunday to Saturday. As such, "Chinese Democracy" would not be eligible to chart on The Billboard 200 until the week of Dec. 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In the run-up to release date, album track "Shackler's Revenge" will debut in the video game "Rock Band 2," while a portion of "If the World" is playing over the end credits in the new Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe film "Body of Lies."

In addition, GNR's seminal 1987 debut, "Appetite for Destruction," will be reissued on vinyl on Oct. 28 via Interscope.

The band's last new studio albums were the simultaneously released "Use Your Illusion I" and "II" in September 1991. A covers set, "The Spaghetti Incident?," followed in 1993, and featured some of the last GNR recordings from original guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
