Tuesday April 1, Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. The last show ever from Velvet Revolver with their frontman Scott Weiland. And one of the lucky people who got to watch this show was yours truly.
After walking through Amsterdam the whole day, my friend and I arrived at the Heineken Music Hall around 7. The hall was pretty empty, so we could get inside pretty quick and walk up to the front, so we had some great places. At 8 the support act (Sons of Albion, with the son of Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant) played a half hour set. Velvet Revolver was supposed to start at 9, but it was 9.30 when they took the stage.
The place was almost full by then, just some empty seats in the back. They kicked off with Let it Roll, and the place went wild. I can't believe how awesome these guys are on stage. Slash and Duff are truly rock gods. Weiland kept word that he would sweat, bruise, and bleed for the fans. Matt proved again what an awesome drummer he is and Dave is just awesome and a real asset for this band.
My personal highlights of the show: The GNR covers (It's so easy, Patience and Mr. Brownstone), Sucker Train Blues (ended up in the mosh pit a few times), Slash's 5 minute solo before Set me Free and Slither (one of the best songs I've heard in years).
The only bad things were the sound during the first few songs (the Heineken Music Hall has the best acoustic in Europe, so I don't know how they screwed that up) and the not working talkbox from Slash during his Get out the door solo. And although everyone was awesome on stage, you could see the chemistry between Scott and the rest of the band wasn't what it used to be anymore. The only mention of a break-up was before the last fight, when Scott announced how appropriate the song was.
It was definately one of the best shows I've ever been too. Too bad it was also their last.

The next day we visited Artis, the Amsterdam Zoo. And I know it has nothing to do with the topic, but I just wanted to post this picture of this incredibly cute racoon:
